My Vision For Richardson

I envision a Richardson where the lives and livelihoods of its residents are considered first and foremost, and the neighborhoods they live in are invested in and protected. I envision a Richardson that is considered a top choice for businesses looking to relocate or expand, and whose civic leaders appreciate our value and hold out for opportunities to maximize it. I envision a Richardson that is renowned for its educational opportunities, from pre-school through Ph.D., and where the city is seen as a trusted partner, collaborator and enabler that considers its vital young people to be valuable participants. I envision a Richardson where transparency and community engagement drive how and what we do, where residents understand and buy into that vision, and have opportunities to pitch in as we realize it into being. I envision a Richardson that recognizes the value and overall impact each opportunity has, and looks to maximize that opportunity for the good of its residents, in synergy with its corporate environment and partners, and with a positive impact on its students, and the best overall effect on our city.

Neighborhoods

Richardson neighborhoods are the essence of what makes our city sought after. Investing in them yields unparalleled benefits for our community. Prioritizing initiatives tailored to the unique needs of each one is crucial. Enhancing safety, upgrading infrastructure, and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of every neighborhood are top priorities.

Economic Development

For ages, Richardson has boasted a 60/40 split in its commercial vs. residential tax base. Today, the commercial 60% is in jeopardy. Changing market conditions will impact future decades of commercial property occupancy. Proactively working with much greater urgency to mitigate future valuation is key to keeping taxes manageable.

Schools

Schools are the cornerstone of our community and one of the top reasons residents choose Richardson. It’s time to take those relationships to a more collaborative and proactive level. We can and should find ways to work more closely with our schools to maximize the impact of taxpayer funds while making Richardson an increasingly more attractive place to live.

First Responders

I recognize the indispensable role of first responders. They’re the backbone of our community’s safety and well-being, tirelessly serving and protecting us each and every day. Their dedication, bravery, and sacrifice deserve our utmost appreciation and support. I am committed to ensuring that our first responders have the resources and recognition they need to continue their vital work.

Arts & Culture

Two decades ago, our city demonstrated foresight by establishing a dedicated Center for the Arts, marking a significant investment in cultural enrichment. Now, it’s time to usher in a new era of creativity.

Transparency

As Mayor, I envision propelling our City to regional leadership in transparency. For starters, our residents can count on my having an unwavering commitment to live-casting and archived recordings of all public meetings convened by the City.

“As someone who’s called Richardson home since 1985 and now runs my own business here, I truly appreciate our safe neighborhoods, great schools, and wonderful community. But I’ll be honest – I find myself driving to other areas too often for shopping, dining, and fun activities.

Why shouldn’t we have amenities like Market Street here? This is why I endorse Amir Omar for Mayor. His vision will help Richardson reach its full potential while preserving what makes us special. I encourage you to join me in supporting Amir Omar – together we can make Richardson all it can be.”

“I support Amir because I don’t know of a more passionate and energetic advocate for Richardson. He’ll sit down with anyone to discuss ways to improve life in our community. But Amir also walks the walk, and is always willing to roll up his sleeves and get to work on projects big and small to benefit Richardson. He understands that leadership involves active listening, and that good ideas become great when the entire community is engaged in the process and the result.”

“I have been a resident of Richardson for over 40 years and have made it my passion to give back to this great City. From supporting RISD while my children (and now grandchildren) grew up, to the Methodist Hospital Foundation Board to the Network of Community Ministries, placing the needs of others first is my inner fire. Supporting those who also feel this way is critical for growth, development, and a safe home for our families. This is why I endorse Amir Omar for Mayor. Mr. Omar will work tirelessly to bring Richardson back to the City it once was, a shining star. Please join me in my support for Amir Omar for Mayor. His leadership will help to establish Richardson once again as the City where you desire to live and raise your family.”

As the world embraces AI and ML, Richardson needs a Mayor who can showcase our city’s strengths to attract tech businesses and drive job growth.
